PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION

As part of the ActNow XR Experience, we are touring a large-scale interactive public art installation. The dynamic sculpture has two modes, REFLECT: where one can see themselves and reflected in their surrounding environment, and ILLUMINATE: when the custom designed LED system brings data visualizations on the climate tipping points to life with an ambient soundscape and narration by Indigenous leaders. The art installation is powered off-grid with renewable energy sources. A "digital twin" of the art installation will be accessible in the VR world.

Visualizing the Invisible

The core objective of the size and scale of the ActNow XR Art Installation is to promote sustainability through the convergence of art, data, and clean energy by demonstrating how much renewable energy, from different sources, is required to power an average house. It's eye opening to see what it takes to provide 10kW of power to support a multi-media art installation that runs 49kWh per night to support the audio-visual systems.

In comparison, the average sized 2,000 sq ft house requires a 10kW power supply per day, which can be sourced from solar energy via Photovoltaic Panels charged at 5 hours in the sun and stored in Lithium Ferrous Phosphate (LFP) batteries, which do not contain nickel or cobalt.

Clean, Renewable Energy

Alternatively, Green Hydrogen, being the most abundant chemical substance in the universe, can power 8-16kW of continuous performance scalable up to 50kWh with additional enclosures, paired with a 48V battery based inverter.

A 10kW generator filled with Renewable Diesel (RD) or hydro-treated vegetable oil (HVO) biofuel known as Green Diesel, can power the art installation and as well as run the essentials appliances of an average-sized house. Green Diesel can be used as an immediate "drop-in" replacement for petroleum based diesel without making any mechanical modifications and reduces CO2 emission by 78%.

Climate Tipping Points and Planetary Boundaries

Exceeding 1.5°C of global warming can trigger several irreversible impacts to the climate system. Data visualizations highlight greenhouse gas emissions that can cause climate tipping points to cascade, setting off catastrophic impacts across the planet.

Ecosystem Restoration and Biodiversity

Visualizing how conserving and restoring natural spaces, and the biodiversity they contain, is essential for limiting emissions and adapting to climate impacts. Protecting and restoring ecosystems is our strongest natural defense against climate change.
